Cooking gas shortage brings daily life in Yemen’s Aden to a standstill

In Aden, the southern port city where Yemen’s internationally recognised government is based, a domestic cooking gas shortage is pushing daily life and basic services to the brink. Residents roll empty cylinders through the streets in search of refills, and many say official stations are running dry, forcing some to wait hours or abandon work altogether.

When official supplies disappear, a black market takes over, with residents saying a cylinder can cost up to three times the official price. Gas distribution manager Radhwan Sadeq Salem said queues are endless and fights break out constantly, adding that Aden is suffering across every service, including electricity, water, unpaid salaries and now cooking gas, with “no end in sight.”

Al Jazeera’s Dalya Al Masri reports from Aden, Yemen.
