Fifty years ago, in the chaotic final days of the Vietnam War, the US government launched “Operation Baby Lift,” evacuating thousands of children from South Vietnam. The mission was meant to offer safety—but it began in tragedy, with a plane crash that killed hundreds. Today, many of those adoptees are grappling with the complex legacy of being taken from their homeland.
